Climate of Sydney

The climate of Sydney is temperate, having warm, sometimes hot summers and mild winters. Rainfall is spread evenly throughout the year, though is highest between March and June. Summer highs average at around , and winter highs at . Inner Sydney does not experience extreme seasonal differences as the weather is moderated by proximity to the ocean, and more extreme temperatures are recorded in the inland western suburbs where seasonal variation is more noticeable.
Sydney has 103.9 clear days annually.〔 It receives over 2,600 sunshine hours in an annual basis, with the monthly percent possible sunshine ranging from 53% in January to 72% in August.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 url = http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_066037_All.shtml )〕 Sydney gets around 30 thunderstorms per year.〔〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/sevwx/facts/ecl.shtml )〕 Sydney would usually get dry heat, especially when temperatures soar over . Though in some hot days, low pressure troughs and southerly busters would eventually increase humidity and decrease temperatures later in the day.〔Batt, K, 1995: Sea breezes on the NSW coast, Offshore Yachting, Oct/Nov 1995, Jamieson Publishing.〕
In late autumn and winter, east coast lows can bring large amounts of rainfall. Even in its months of highest rainfall Sydney has relatively few rainy days, on average less than 13 rainy days per month. Within the city and surrounds, rainfall varies, from around at Badgerys Creek (in the west) to at Turramurra (the northeast).〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Turramurra )Sea temperatures average and range between in July and in January.
The El Niño Southern Oscillation plays an important role in determining Sydney's weather patterns: drought and bushfire on the one hand, and storms and flooding on the other, associated with the opposite phases of the Southern Oscillation. Sydney is prone to heat waves and drought, which have become more common in recent years.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Drought )
